New Ways to Watch Grid League: ESPN and Sports Illustrated TV

The United Grid League has two new ways to watch. Grid League is on ESPN’s The Ocho this Saturday, August 8, and the league is now on Sports Illustrated TV, a free channel that streams around the clock.

ESPN’s The Ocho

The broadcast airs Saturday, August 8 at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and features the New York Wolves against the Tampa Bay Brigade. The match is a replay of the Wolves and Brigade from the league’s last event in Lakeland, Florida. You can also stream it on ESPN+ at plus.espn.com.

The Ocho is ESPN’s annual showcase of unconventional sports, and this year is its tenth anniversary. From August 6 through 9, ESPN is airing more than 74 hours of programming across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and the ESPN app. Grid League is one of 23 sports on The Ocho for the first time this year.

Sports Illustrated TV

Grid League is now on Sports Illustrated TV. SI TV is a free channel that runs Sports Illustrated content around the clock, including original programming, live events, sports lifestyle shows, and archival footage.

SI TV is free to watch on Fire TV, the Roku Channel, MyFree DIRECTV, Sling Freestream, Plex, and Anoki LiveTVx, with more providers being added.

What Grid League Is

Grid League is a coed team sport built around head-to-head races. Two teams line up on parallel lanes of an 80-foot floor called the Grid. Each lane is split into four quadrants, with a single rig in the middle for bodyweight movements. Five men and five women from each team are on the floor at a time, drawn from a roster of up to 20 players.

In every race, both teams run the same set of movements at the same time, and the finishing order and time decide the points. A race win is worth two points, and the final race of the match, the Sprint Relay, is worth three, so a match often comes down to the last race. Players specialize in certain movements rather than doing everything. The coach decides who runs each race and when to substitute, and those calls usually decide the match.

A Home Match for the Wolves

New York plays its first home match this weekend at American Dream in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the league’s first event in the Northeast. Tickets are available at tickets.unitedgridleague.com.
