Vetterkind is a four-year Strength Specialist with the Breakers and a two-time Strength Specialist of the Year, taking home the award in 2023 and again in 2025. Her lifting numbers are among the most impressive in the league. She plays in 90% of the Breakers’ races and is one of the team’s top ringer players.

Before Grid, Vetterkind served in the U.S. Army as a 91 Bravo Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic and earned her Airborne qualification. She recently graduated with a BS in Exercise and Sports Science, holds a CrossFit Level 2 certification and a USAW Level 1. She also trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Rogue Wave Martial Arts and competed at the Newbreed Treasure Coast Championship earlier this year.

Head Coach Matt Hornaday doesn’t sugarcoat what the Breakers are losing.

“Vida is our leader and the engine of this team,” Hornaday said. “You can’t just replace Vida with one athlete. It takes two to three athletes to replace her and they still don’t make up everything we lose without her. Vida leads by example and her work ethic encourages everyone else to work harder.”

No one is inheriting her number. Jersey #7 stays retired for the 2026 season.

“When we were building this team, we were adding pieces to complement her,” Hornaday said. “Without her, all of our girls are going to step up.”

Alyssa Martinez takes on a larger role on the strength side. Ro returns to the roster. Shay steps up on the strength side as well. Billie, Haley, and Sabrina each got significantly stronger in the offseason and will move into deeper utility roles. Rookie Maddie joins the mix as an overall force on the Grid. Rookie Jess brings a strong weightlifting background and will take on heavy barbell work. The men’s roster is the deepest it has ever been and will carry more of the load where needed.

“It’s going to be a collection of athletes who will have to step up and take on an extra 10 to 15 percent to help make up some of what we lose with Vida,” Hornaday said.
