The New 2026 Playoff Structure

The United Grid League is expanding its playoff field for 2026. Six teams will make the postseason this year, up from four in prior seasons. The top three teams from each conference earn a spot.

Why the change

The League grew to ten teams in 2026 with the addition of the New York Wolves and Carolina Flight. Letting only four of those ten into the postseason left too many quality teams on the outside, especially in a short regular season where a single bad match can swing a conference race. Six teams makes the playoff pool proportional to the League, reduces strength of schedule weight, and adds real drama to Championship Weekend.

How the conferences shake out

The East Conference is Atlanta Wild, Fort Lauderdale Lions, Palm Beach Breakers, South Beach Palms, and New York Wolves. The West Conference is Houston Bandits, Tampa Bay Brigade, Southwest Florida Sharks, Las Vegas Venom, and Carolina Flight.

Carolina Flight in the West is not intuitive given the geography, but both expansion teams came out of the eastern half of the country and placing the Flight in the West keeps the conferences balanced at five teams each.

How it works

The top seed in each conference earns a first round bye, while the second and third seeds open the postseason in the first single elimination match. Winners move on the face the top Conference seed in the Conference Finals. Winners of those matches move on to the Championship.
