MORE ABOUT THIS PLAYER

Dakota Shackleton: A Multi-Sport Athlete Making His Mark

Dakota Shackleton is turning heads in the Grid League as a rookie with the Las Vegas Venom, but his path to this emerging sport winds through an impressive athletic career spanning Division 1 football and competitive CrossFit. The 30-year-old utility player brings a unique combination of strength, agility, and competitive drive to his newest athletic pursuit.

Just beginning his Grid League journey in 2024, Shackleton has already shown promise wearing #21 for the Las Vegas Venom. After a brief stint with the Palm Beach Breakers, he found his home with the Venom, where his versatility as a utility player has been on display. In a notable match between the Breakers and Venom, Shackleton showcased his skills in “burpee to ring” exercises, proving he could hold his own against established competitors.

Football was Shackleton’s first sporting love. At UNLV, he specialized as a long snapper, playing 12 games in the 2014 season and earning his varsity letter. His perfect snapping record from high school carried through his college career, which included stops at Boise State, Diablo Valley College, and Humboldt State before landing at UNLV.

The transition to CrossFit revealed Shackleton’s exceptional adaptability. Starting in 2016, he climbed from 32,117th worldwide to an impressive 2,315th by 2025. His athletic achievements include a 425-pound back squat, a 315-pound clean and jerk, and the ability to perform 30 unbroken bar muscle-ups. As captain of the Rhino CrossFit Desert Dogs team, he led by example while continuing to push his own limits.

Beyond competition, Shackleton has built a successful career in fitness. As co-owner and head coach at Camp Rhino Las Vegas, he shares his expertise with clients ranging from teenagers to seniors. His credentials include CrossFit Level 2 and USAW Level 1 certifications, and he serves as a remote coach for Underdogs Athletics.

Born in Redwood City, California, Shackleton’s athletic foundation was laid at Monte Vista High School, where he excelled in both football and track and field as a pole vaulter. The son of Melissa Shackleton, he grew up with siblings Dallas, Kaya, and Isaac before pursuing his degree in Kinesiology at UNLV.

What sets Shackleton apart is his ability to excel in multiple athletic disciplines while building a successful business and coaching career. His journey from football to CrossFit to Grid League demonstrates an athlete who consistently seeks new challenges and opportunities for growth.

As Shackleton continues to develop in the Grid League, his diverse athletic background and competitive spirit suggest he’s just getting started. His presence in the Las Vegas fitness community continues to grow, as does his influence as both an athlete and coach. For someone who has already achieved so much across different sports, his rookie season in the Grid League promises to be just another chapter in an already impressive athletic career.
