Mason Belk

HOUSTON BANDITS

Strength Specialist

Height: 5’10”
Weight: 215

I’m just a small town kid with an incredible opportunity to represent myself and the community here in Johnson City. Since 2017, Ive been absolutely hooked on competing and seeing what limits my body has. I’m honored that I’m able to use the Grid floor as my proving ground to show what I’m fully capable of. Lastly, I feel last year’s record isn’t a good representation of how good this Bandits team actually is. We all look forward to proving ourselves this upcoming season.

MORE ABOUT THIS PLAYER

Mason Belk: Texas Strong Man Brings Raw Power to Grid League

A new force is entering the Grid League in 2025, and he’s bringing Texas-sized strength with him. Mason Belk, recently signed as a Strength Specialist for the Houston Bandits, represents a perfect blend of raw power and athletic versatility. While he may be new to professional grid competition, his background in CrossFit and impressive lifting numbers suggest he’ll make an immediate impact.

Belk’s athletic journey shows steady growth and dedication. He qualified for the 2024 CrossFit Individual Quarterfinals, placing 290th in the North America West region. His performance in the 2025 CrossFit Open demonstrated continued improvement, ranking 265th in his region. Since 2018, he’s climbed the competitive ladder, transforming from a regional athlete into a top-tier CrossFit competitor.

The numbers behind Belk’s strength are staggering. He can clean and jerk 345 pounds, snatch 265 pounds, and back squat 475 pounds. His 555-pound deadlift puts him in elite company. But what makes him special is his ability to combine this raw strength with bodyweight control – performing 65 unbroken pull-ups shows he’s more than just a heavy lifter.

Growing up in the Austin area shaped Belk’s athletic identity. He comes from a family of athletes; his brother Bryer played baseball at Lake Travis High School, and he maintains close ties with his brothers Brandon and Bryer. The Texas sporting culture, with its emphasis on strength and hard work, seems built into his DNA.

When he’s not competing, Belk coaches at Johnson City CrossFit, sharing his expertise with others. He previously coached at CrossFit Jääkarhu and 3F CrossFit, building a solid reputation in the Texas fitness community. This coaching experience gives him a unique perspective – he understands both the technical aspects of movement and how to communicate effectively with others.

Outside the gym, Belk embodies the Texas lifestyle. He’s often found working on his diesel Dodge truck (nicknamed “Dotty”), spending time outdoors, or hanging out with his Catahoula dog. These interests paint the picture of an athlete who stays true to his roots despite his growing success in professional sports.

What sets Belk apart in the Grid League is his combination of strength and agility. While many athletes excel in either heavy lifting or gymnastics, he’s proven capable in both. His coaching background adds another layer – he brings both physical ability and technical understanding to his role as a Strength Specialist.

As the Houston Bandits prepare for the 2025 season, expectations are high for their new signing. Belk’s mix of power, skill, and Texas determination makes him an exciting addition to professional grid competition. For fans watching this sport grow, Mason Belk represents the kind of well-rounded athlete who could help define its future.
