From Record-Breaking Softball Star to Grid League Pioneer: Reagan Hathaway’s Athletic Journey
Reagan Hathaway’s path in sports showcases an athlete who refuses to be defined by a single discipline. Now a rookie utility player for the Fort Lauderdale Lions in the United Grid League, Hathaway has built an athletic career that spans from record-breaking softball achievements to elite CrossFit competition and endurance sports.
Growing up in Lenexa, Kansas, Hathaway made her mark early at Olathe Northwest High School. Her natural talent for softball emerged as she set a Kansas state record with 18 home runs in a single season. She earned multiple All-Sunflower League selections and was twice named the Kansas City Star’s All-Metro Kansas Softball Player of the Year.
Her success led her to the University of Texas, where she played outfield for the Longhorns from 2016 to 2020. Hathaway’s college career tested her resilience when two knee surgeries threatened to end her playing days. Not only did she return to the field, but she thrived, posting a .309 batting average in her redshirt junior season and ranking third in the Big 12 with 17 doubles. While excelling on the field, she also pursued a biology degree, showing her commitment to both athletic and academic excellence.
In 2015, Hathaway discovered CrossFit, marking the beginning of her evolution into a multi-sport athlete. She has steadily climbed the ranks in CrossFit competition, reaching 313th place in the 2024 CrossFit Open and 136th place in the 2023 North America East Quarterfinals. Her athletic achievements expanded further when she completed a full Ironman triathlon, demonstrating her exceptional endurance and versatility.
The 2024 season marks Hathaway’s debut in the United Grid League as a utility player for the Fort Lauderdale Lions. Her ability to adapt to different sports and physical challenges makes her a natural fit for the Grid League’s dynamic format, where athletes must excel across various fitness disciplines.
Beyond competition, Hathaway has found her calling as a coach at a fitness facility in Delray Beach, Florida. She shares her experience and knowledge with others while continuing to push her own athletic boundaries. Her journey from a high school softball standout to a multi-sport competitor and coach shows how athletic passion can evolve and grow in unexpected ways.
At just 26 years old, Hathaway’s story is still being written. Her ability to overcome serious injuries, transition between sports, and succeed at every level speaks to her determination and adaptability. As she takes on this new challenge in the Grid League, she continues to inspire others with her resilience and diverse athletic achievements.
Hathaway stands as an example of how modern athletes can reinvent themselves and find success across different sports. Her journey from the softball diamond to CrossFit competitions and now to the Grid League shows that athletic potential knows no boundaries when paired with dedication and courage to try new challenges.
