Janine Nicole: United Grid League Star and CrossFit Powerhouse
Janine Nicole’s path to becoming one of the United Grid League’s most dynamic athletes started long before she stepped onto the competition floor. As a standout bodyweight specialist known for her explosive movements and gymnastics skills, she has quickly become one of the sport’s rising stars.
In her 2023 rookie season with the Orlando Aces, Nicole immediately made her mark by helping lead the team to an undefeated championship season. Her natural talent for the sport was evident as she earned selection to the 2024 United Grid League All-Star Team in just her second year of competition. Now competing with the Fort Lauderdale Lions, she continues to impress with remarkable stats – including 50 handstand pushups in 38 seconds and sets of 20 consecutive bar muscle-ups.
Track and field formed the foundation of Nicole’s athletic career. Growing up in Elizabeth, New Jersey, she earned All-American honors in both high school and college, competing at the national level for the University of Texas and University of Arkansas. Her speed and power were apparent from age 10 when she began competing in the Colgate Women’s Games. Even chronic Achilles tendon issues during college couldn’t derail her competitive drive, as she later proved by qualifying for the CrossFit Games three straight years from 2021-2023.
While excelling athletically, Nicole also prioritized education, completing her undergraduate studies between Texas and Arkansas before earning a Master’s in Public Administration from Rutgers University-Newark. During graduate school, she gained valuable coaching experience as an assistant with the track and field program.
Today, Nicole balances her competitive career with leadership roles in the fitness community. As Head Coach and General Manager of JCFIT (CrossFit Jersey City) and Board President of The OUT Foundation, she works to support LGBTQ+ inclusion in fitness. Her previous experience includes nonprofit work with The Armory Foundation and coaching positions at Long Island University-Brooklyn.
Nicole’s personal life adds another layer to her Grid League story through her relationship with Orlando Aces owner and head coach Taylar Stallings. The couple has openly discussed the unique dynamics of balancing their personal and professional connections within the sport. As an out athlete and advocate, Nicole serves as a role model while staying grounded through simple pleasures like spending time with her two dogs.
At 5’2″ and 127 pounds, Nicole proves that focused training and determination matter more than size in competitive fitness. Her rapid rise from rookie champion to All-Star demonstrates both her natural abilities and dedication to constant improvement. As she continues her Grid League career with the Fort Lauderdale Lions, Nicole remains focused on pushing her limits and inspiring others both on and off the competition floor.
