Megan Medeiros

FORT LAUDERDALE LIONS

Utility Player

Height: 5’3″
Weight: XX

Growing up I played soccer and competed in track (hurdles and sprint relays) and cross country in high school. In college I found CrossFit through a friend and was hooked. I competed for a while but then discovered GRID in 2018 and it was a complete game changer for me. I started out on the Orlando Aces in 2018, starting at the bottom and working our way to the top with our championship win in 2023. In 2025 I became a Lion with the merger of the Orlando Aces and Fort Lauderdale Lions. It was an amazing season and I can’t wait to see what we will do this year!
You’ll catch me on the grid mostly performing variations of pistols and handstand pushups (hspu), kettlebell movements, and some swinging on the bar/rings or barbell moving. My favorite movement is probably 10” deficit hspu, with dumbbell pistol thrusters as a close second.
A large part of my story is that in 2022, after years of being a competitive athlete, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness that affects my nervous system. It was and still is a huge adjustment, and even though it may have altered things a little, I’m thankful to still be out here doing what I love. Also, while I acknowledge that all chronic illnesses are different and everyone’s experience is unique, I want to be an example to show others out there that what they think is impossible after diagnosis may still be possible! Don’t give up 🙂
Outside of competing, I am a Registered Dietitian and currently work in a clinical setting. I love learning about and teaching all things nutrition-related and helping people find a sense of normalcy with their diet after receiving a medical diagnosis. I’ve been married to my wife Kate for 6 years, and you will see her at every match, usually recording me with 2 phones 😂❤️.  We also have a dog named Roni who I’m obsessed with.
Come check us out this season! I hope to see you there!

MORE ABOUT THIS PLAYER

Megan Medeiros stands as one of the United Grid League’s most experienced athletes, bringing eight years of competitive excellence to her new team, the Fort Lauderdale Lions. Known for her exceptional bodyweight skills and handstand mastery, she has built a career that combines athletic achievement with remarkable personal resilience.

Since joining the Grid League in 2018, Medeiros has made her mark as a transformative force. During her tenure with the Orlando Aces from 2018 to 2024, she helped lead the team from league strugglers to champions in 2023. Her recent move to the Fort Lauderdale Lions marks an exciting new chapter in her competitive journey.

Medeiros’s athletic abilities speak for themselves. She can perform 65 handstand pushups and 30 strict handstand pushups in a single set. Her strength extends beyond bodyweight movements, with impressive lifting numbers including a 300-pound back squat, 225-pound clean, and 165-pound snatch. She excels in gymnastic movements too, completing 12 consecutive ring muscle-ups and 305 double-unders.

Her path to Grid League success started on the track fields of Delaware. At Appoquinimink High School, she competed in hurdles, sprint relays, and cross country. College brought her to the University of Delaware, where she balanced athletics with academic excellence, making the Dean’s List multiple times. In 2014, a friend introduced her to CrossFit, setting her on the path to competitive fitness.

Beyond the gym, Medeiros works as a Registered Dietitian, helping patients navigate medical diagnoses through proper nutrition. Her wife Kate has been by her side for five years, recording every competition and celebrating each achievement. Their dog Roni completes their family unit.

In 2022, Medeiros faced a significant challenge when diagnosed with a chronic illness affecting her nervous system. Rather than step back, she adapted and continued competing at an elite level, stating simply, “While it may have altered things a little, nothing will take me off the grid.”

Her technical expertise shines in bodyweight movements, particularly handstand variations and pistol squats. She’s earned recognition as one of the “queens of handstand pushups” and consistently ranks among Florida Grid League’s top performers in testing. Her favorite movements include 10-inch deficit handstand pushups and dumbbell pistol thrusters, showcasing her unique blend of strength and control.

Recent media appearances highlight her influence in the sport. She featured on the “In Off The Bench Podcast” discussing her career journey and future goals. A notable competition video capturing her handstand pushup battle against Paula Leyes demonstrates why she’s considered one of the sport’s most skilled bodyweight specialists.

From Delaware track athlete to Grid League veteran, Medeiros has built more than just an athletic career – she’s created a blueprint for balancing elite competition with professional success and personal challenges. Her move to the Fort Lauderdale Lions represents not an endpoint but another step forward in her ongoing athletic journey.
