Join the Crew: The Heartbeat of the United Grid League
Stepping onto the floor of a United Grid League match, the energy is electric—not just from the athletes sprinting through a flurry of races, but from the dedicated crew operating behind the scenes.
Being a staffer for Grid League isn’t just a weekend gig; it’s a front-row seat to the evolution of a sport. While the athletes showcase their power on the GRID, the event crew creates the stage where that magic happens. As Lynnsey Evans, Director of Operations puts it, “Sometimes I think we’re crazy for working this hard to put on these matches, but then I see what kind of experience we’re giving the players and fans and it’s truly so rewarding.”
More Than Just a Job—It’s Family
The most common word you’ll hear among the crew isn’t “logistics” or “equipment”—it’s family. In an environment where every second counts, the bond between staffers becomes unbreakable. Whether you are resetting heavy weights in record time, making the tough calls in the heat of competition, or keeping an eagle eye on the teams to catch rule violations, you are part of a tight-knit unit that looks out for one another.
“It’s a true family feel; we all help each other and we’re one big team,” says Chief Ref Brandon McMillan. That sense of belonging often transcends the arena, with another staffer sharing, “I met my wife through working for Grid League.” When you sign up, you aren’t just joining a staff; you’re joining your tribe.
A Launchpad for Personal Growth
Working with the United Grid League is a catalyst for professional and personal transformation. The league is known for recognizing talent and hustle, offering a clear path for those who want to climb the ranks. Cassie Martinez reflected on her five-year journey: “I started as a volunteer on the equipment crew and now I’m the lead commentator on the broadcast… Grid League encourages me to work hard and go after what I want for my life and my career.”
This environment of excellence is contagious. By holding each other to high standards, the crew inspires its members to level up in all areas of their lives. “Grid League pushes me to up my own standards; I don’t think I’d be who I am without working within this sport.”
Find Your Own Team
You don’t need to be a professional athlete to feel the thrill of the win. For many, the event crew provides the competitive camaraderie that is often missing in adult life. “I’m never going to be talented enough to play on one of these Grid League teams, but I have my own team working the events,” explains one dedicated staffer. It is hard work, no doubt—lifting, moving, and coordinating under pressure—but the payoff is a deep sense of pride in helping a growing sport reach new heights. “Of course it’s hard work, but knowing I’m playing a role in launching this sport keeps me coming back.”
