The Wild are the reigning 2024 Champs and won convincingly in the Championship match. They have had some big shifts in the offseason, and reigning head coach of the year Danny Jackson shares some thougths around this.

On the scrimmage with the Breakers:

“The scrimmage with the Breakers was blast! It was great having 2 teams in one location going “head-to-head”, collaborating on strategy, bringing the community together, and…of course…collecting data. From the community side, it was great to be able to hangout out with an opposing team for damn near 12 hours (if we’re including post-scrimmage festivities). From the sport side, there were a good number of metaphorical doors that opened up to begin really introducing the next level of Grid: The Unorthodox Approach.”

On offseason changes to the team:

“As everyone already knows, this season kicked off with us losing over 50% of last year’s roster. That said, and likely similar to every United Grid League coach, I am not unfamiliar with being in the situation of “creating a team out of thin air”…reference the 2023 season when I started off only having Justin and Meg Adams has solidified returners. However, the 2025 season has already put me in a position that I have never experienced as a coach of a team (assistant or head coach). For the sake of gamesmanship, I’ll keep most of it to myself; however, I will say that this season for the Atlanta Wild is going to be the most enjoyable.

We lost great leadership and skill, yes…HOWEVER…what we gained from the new Wild athletes this season, already, is not comparable to anything I’ve encountered in my Grid coaching career that dates back to the NPGL days. In no particular order; new Wild players Brynn Carrick, Matt Phelan, Jimmie McBride, Devon Braykovich, Kawika Henderson, and Rafael Arreaza have the ideal mindset for carrying forward a multi-year plan of execution to bring the chip to ATL. As a word of caution, it’s beyond silly to ignore these athletes and they will be very well known by the time their Grid careers come to end.”

On strategy shifts in 2025

“There are things that I’m working on that I want to keep to myself, for now. I know that’s a bit annoying, but I have to do what I have to do in order to capitalize on the 2025 season.”
