Announcing East and West Conferences – United Grid League

Overview

The Grid League is planning to move back to a conference format after experimenting with a single unified group. The new structure will organize teams into East and West conferences, primarily based on geographical location.

Teams in Each Conference

1. West Conference: Houston Bandits, Las Vegas Venom(formerly Venom), Tampa Brigade, and Sharks
2. East Conference: Atlanta Wild, South Beach Palms, Palm Beach Breakers, and Fort Lauderdale Lions

Reasoning Behind the Change

Why Return to Conferences

The league experimented with a single unified group in the previous season, primarily to create better match-ups based on prior performance. However, several factors prompted a return to the conference format:

1. Despite attempts to create optimal match-ups based on previous year’s rankings, the outcomes did not line up with the goal of more compeitive matches. 
2. Team owners felt something was “missing” without the conference structure.
3. Conferences create natural rivalries and relationships between teams in the same division.
4. The conference format aligns with most established sports leagues, providing a familiar structure for fans.
5. Conferences make standings graphics and visuals more intuitive and organized.

Why East and West

The decision to use East vs. West (rather than the previous North and South) was influenced by:

1. The geographical expansion of the league with new teams in Houston and Vegas.
2. Natural clustering of teams along geographical lines.
3. Anticipation of future growth into other major metropolitan areas.
4. Alignment with how other major sports leagues like the NBA structure their conferences.

Competition Structure

The conference structure will primarily affect:

1. Regular season standings
2. Playoff qualification and seeding
3. Conference championships leading to the league championship

Teams will make the Championship match via Conference playoffs between the top two teams in each Conference.

This east-west division creates a foundation for league growth while providing a more intuitive framework for fans and teams alike.
